What is a Rooftop Package Unit and How Dose it Work?

A rooftop package unit (RTU) is an HVAC system that contains all the components needed to handle air conditioning in one compact unit. Rooftop package units are commonly used in light or large commercial premises, but they are also very popular in the retail and industrial real estate industries.

The working principle of the rooftop package unit is mainly divided into the following steps.

First of all, air is returned to the rooftop package unit from the space the unit is ventilating. Some units will also mix outdoor air with this return wind, in order to provide fresher air to the space.

The air then passes through the filter rack and continues into the cooling coil, where it is cooled by a standard refrigeration cycle of the refrigerant.

After that, the air flows through the blower, where it is conditioned and prepared for the space that needs it. Some units have small heating elements near the blowers to further regulate air humidity, like our rooftop package unit product, which also have optional features, including humidity adjustment as well as zoned independent control.
